Growing Carmarthenshire: Progressive procurement, food supply chains and future opportunities

Growing Carmarthenshire: Progressive procurement, food supply chains and future opportunities
Online Event – Tuesday, 16th March 2021 (14:00-16:30hrs)
Carmarthenshire Public Services Board (PSB) is looking at ways to develop its public sector food procurement arrangements. The work, which is funded through the Welsh Government Foundational Economy Challenge Fund, aims to challenge the way the public sector procures its food supplies whilst also taking stock of the local food supply chain currently available and future development opportunities. It seeks to establish a new way of working which could potentially be replicated across all other public sector procured goods and services.
This event is being run by Carmarthenshire PSB to share the findings of the work to date, learn from other areas who have already started and developed this approach and to set the scene for the public sector to underpin a change moving forward through progressive procurement.
We would like to engage with a wide range of stakeholders to identify opportunities for progressing this work locally through collaboration. Through local sourcing and smarter procurement, we aspire to transform the relationship between the public sector and food supply chains, maximising the value of procurement spend in local communities whilst transitioning to a sustainable local food system.
The event will be chaired by Aled Rhys Jones and key speakers will include:
- Barry Liles, University of Wales Trinity Saint David & Chairman of Carmarthenshire PSB
- Prof. Kevin Morgan, Cardiff University
- Simon Wright, Wright’s Food Emporium
- Line Rise Nielson, Copenhagen Model
- Greg Parsons, South West Food Hub
The event is free and you can register to attend here.
